Approach

Start: Punta Helbronner (ITALY) - 3840 meters by cablebox from La Palud, Courmayeur, Aosta Valley, 1200 meters high.

Arrive: Aiguille du Midi (FRANCE) - 3842 meters then possible by cablecar to Chamonix, 1000 meters high.

Route Description

From Punta Helbronner with the rope, ice axe and crampons, you go out from the cablebox station to the glacier. Through a wonderful scenario you cross the glacier du Geant and the glacier du Tacul through Vallee Blanche in about 4 hours.

The path on the glacier is easy but with some crevasses and an exposed ridge near the Aiguille du Midi arriving. About the altitude, you leave on 3480 meters and arrive to 3842 meters but going down until 2900 meters of altitude: so the difference of level of the trip is about 500 meters down and 900 meters up.

At only 15 minutes from the path there is Refuge des Cosmiques (3613 meters - 45 minutes from Aigulle du Midi; book before to leave if you decide to sleep in the refuge because is always full during the summer period), from where starts the path to Mont Blanc du Tacul.

There is also a cablebox that connects Helbronner and Aiguille du Midi in about 30 minutes, really excting (but not like climbing!!!).

Essential Gear

Ice-axe, crampons, rope, sunglasses.
