ApproachTo get to Vedöya, one takes the boat from Röst. There are tours. Inquire at the hostel, for times etc.
They go to the island in the morning and comes back to pick you up in the late afternoon. In summertime there is boats every day.
Route Description
When the boat drops you off, they point generally towards a slope and says: "it's easiest over there".
Actually, that is about all the information one needs. You walk in the direction they point, and in the beginning it's a walk-up. Soon it gets steeper, one needs to hold on to the grass or rocks. It doesn't get more difficult than that. It's a scramble, you need both your hands most of the way up. When you done this for 686 ft, you're up there.
What you do need to do, is to be careful so you don't disturb the birds. This is essential.
If your route comes too close to a bird's nest, you move away from it!
If the bird is calm and sits still, it isn't disturbed. It's starts to move nervously, if you are too close.
It is truly an easy route, there was a upper middle age couple birdwatching too, at the same time as we were. They took it much slower and were more careful, but had no problems. She was a bit apprehensive of going down, but made it fine.
The caption to the photo, which I don't succeed attaching, says:
On the way up on fuglefjellet outside Röst. A little scrambling. The grass can be a bit slippery if wet.
Oh, and falling is not an option, so, hold on to that grass!
Essential GearYou do not need anything, but shoes that are not slippery. Normal hiking boots works fine.

Miscellaneous InfoOn Röst, close to the harbour, on the way to - or from - the hostel, there grows stinging nettles. They do not sting you. They have mutated, or something. It's very funny watching people trying to touch those but not daring, because their bodies "know" it will hurt.
