Approach

First, you need to get to Puerto de Navacerrada (Madrid):
By car: From Madrid you access Puerto de Navacerrada by highway A6 to Villalba and then M-601 (around 60 Km)
By train: From Madrid (Atocha or Chamartin central stations) to Cercedilla and then Tramway line C-9

Then from Puerto de Navacerrada, behind the bar "Venta Arias" you take the classic "Camino Schmidt" until Puerto de la Fuenfria. All the way is perfectly signalled with yellow circles on the trees. The path is around 6Km and takes you around 1'30h-2hs. From here you start the climb

Route Description

Camino Schmidt is a quite flat path although you have some ups and dows. It joins Puerto Navacerrada with Puerto de la Fuenfria. From here you can begin to climb Cerro Minguete and then up to the Monton de Trigo with some interesting slopes at the peak

Essential Gear

In winter crampons and ice axe for the climb are more than recommended.

In all seasons, telescopic walking sticks (at least one) for the approximation through the Camino Schmidt can be very helpful.
