Overview

Steve Ford slaves Sak on "Call of the Canyon".
The Western Wall is located in a small canyon to the left of the Tall Wall in the Western Wall Area of the A-Hills. It has some of the best quality "Sport" rock in the entire A-Hills. The seven recommended routes that are located here, consist of solid 5.10 climbing abilities and are very well protected at the cruxes. You won't find too many folks up here and most of the time you will have the Wall to yourselves. In the Spring, Fall and Winter, I recommend that you hit this Wall in the morning as the Sun warms it to a perfect temp and the proverbial winds are blocked by the upper canyons. If you come out in the Summer, late afternoon is the prime time and the small canyons deep springs that run under the base boulders, cool the area sufficiently to make it a very nice hidout in the heat.

The Recommended Routes(As you enter the canyon):
a)Giddyup 5.10a**
b)Git Along Little Doggies 5.10c*
c)Boom Boom Mancini 5.10b**
d)Bad Day at Blackrocks 5.10d**
e)Call of the Canyon 5.9/5.10b***(5.10d variation goes up and to the left of the bulge...airy and Fun!)
f)Hang em High 5.10b***(same 5.10d finish variation as C/C above)
g)High Plains Drifter 5.10b**(finish goes right, not left, over the bulge)

Getting There

Take Movie Rd. north to just before it veers right. Get on the left turning road and at the second fork, veer left again and head for the obvious Tall Wall long pyramid formation. You will end up just right, 25yds, of the Tall Wall. Park. The Western Wall is the obvious east facing upper wall 1/10th of mile or so directly past the Tall Wall. Take the BLM rock guided trail that goes left, right by the Tall Wall and continue straight till you encounter some big boulders. Scramble up and over three sets of these large boulders and whalla, have fun! "Giiddyup" is the first route encountered and starts below the big boulders. This is a suedo isolated area so be wary of local Rattler's.
