Overview

The wall

"Via ferrata Reinhard-Schiestl" is an iron route in the Oetztal. It doesn´t lead to a summit, but it goes steeply through a rock wall in the valley. 500 meters south of the town "Laengenfeld" are parking-places at a bus stop, and there you can see the best thing: The start of the via ferrata is just 3 minutes away and the wall rises 200 meters above the street. You need a little bit of power in your arms to do the via ferrata. It has a difficult of "D" (of Kurt Schall-Scala A -> E). It is not proper for kids-climbing. You need 50 minutes to descend to the parking.

Reinhard Schiestl
Reinhard Schiestl was a climber of the Oetztal. He was born in 1957 and died 1995. He was an idol for a whole generation. He did in the late 1980s some very hard routes, e.x. "Pol Pot IX+", escpecial many "free solo"-Routes. Some facts:
- 1983: The Nose - El Capitan
- 1984: MontBlanc - Freneypfeiler
- 1986: Matterhorn - North Face

A biographie named "Der leise Weg" was released by Walter Spitzenstätter in 2003.

Getting There

From the Inn-Valley to Oetz in the Oetz-Valley. After the town "Laengenfeld" ca. 500m is a bus stop on the right-hand side. The via ferrata rises on the left-hand side. You can´t miss it.
