OverviewMore details on the Mount Ord Road.
Getting ThereSee the main text for driving directions.
Route DescriptionMount Ord Road is paved for the first 1/4 mile, then well-graded dirt for the remainder, roughly a 7-mile drive to the parking area below the summit.
The road is not shown on the latest topographical maps, so I GPS'd some spot locations and pieced together a road map, which I have posted here. Use it as a rough guide only! I tried to be accurate but can't guarantee extreme detailed accuracy.
Most sturdy vehicles should be able to drive to the parking area below the summit. The road is narrow and steep but in good condition (in dry weather). Be aware of oncoming traffic around the many blind turns, and the usual ATVers.
I parked at a stock tank near the junction with Forest Road 1688, which turns right (south) and is much less well-maintained than the main road. I parked off the main road, well hidden. Walk the main road to the top - from where I was took about 3 miles and 2 hours one way. There are a few drops along the way.
Essential GearWaterWet weather concernsI have been on this road in rain and it is not a good place to be. Like most dirt roads, it becomes very slick and treacherous when wet. Images
