OverviewThis is the standard route as described by Tom Lopez in his invaluable book. First head up the Bellas lakes trail. The trail gains about 1400ft of elevation and ends at the lower lake. After this, travel through open country toward the upper lake. To your west is the imposing face of Altair peak. Pyramid Peak is to the south and your idea is scramble up scree and rock ribs on the south face of Pyramid to the east ridge about 700 feet below the summit. The ridge is somewhat steep but on stable talus and presents no obstacles. This is pretty much class 2 although some might call a couple of section class 3. These is no exposure to speak of unless you venture onto the north face while ascending the east ridge. The trailhead is at 8040ft, so you are looking at about 3600ft. vertical gain. Round trip from the car was 6 hours at an average pace. I highly recommend Google earth as a way to check out the routeGetting ThereAdd Getting There text here.

Essential GearNo need for helmet. I brought an ice axe but even in snow the route is not steep enough for an ice axe to be necessary. Trekking poles are helpful. There is plentiful access to water.External LinksAdd External Links text here.
