Overview

This route involves some bushwacking, steep scrambling, and a lot of talus - but you will be rewarded with some amazing views of Snowshoe Peak, Bockman Peak, Granite Lake and the rest of the Grand Cabinet Mountains.

A camp at Snowshoe Lake is a good starting point for this climb.

The route finding starts here

Getting There

N. Fork Bull River trail #972:

Take MT. Highway 56 and turn east on the South Fork Bull River Road No. 410. When the road forks stay right. After a mile turn northeast on Road No. 2722 and go about 2 miles to the trailhead.

*As of July 1st, 2007 Road No. 2722 is closed due to a huge washout. Be prepared to hike the 2 extra miles to get there.

Route Description

Camping at Snowshoe Lake provides a good starting point.

Route up the headwall.

Whether you're starting from Snowshoe Lake or the Lower reaches of the N. Fork Bull River, you need to make your way to the basin above the headwall of Trail 972.

After the headwall.

Once you're near the top of the steep basin, turn north and pick your way through the grassy gullies and the last of the trees until you're on the talus covered ridge that will lead you to the top.

Essential Gear

If climbing in the summer no extra gear will be needed.
