Starting from top of Layton Peak

Looking south from Layton peak, Thurston is the third peak in the distance. Following the ridge line over involves some significant altitude losses and re-gains. There some areas of rock and brush, but the majority of the way is easy route finding through short sage bushes. It took me 1 hr 15 minutes to make the distance from Layton peak, but I also stopped to check out the two peaks between. The distance was almost exactly 1 mile.

I downclimbed from Thurston (not fun -- the sage grows higher) onto the Great Western trail. You can follow the Great Western Trail either north to Chinscraper, or south to Farmington peak.
