Practcing placing screws on steep terrain: The lower curtain

This route is a long bushy gully on the south side of Straight Canyon, with three sweet curtain/steps. It will be in the shade all day, and takes a while to climb and descend.

The Route:

Climb some small steps and bulges to a 25 ft. curtain. More easy climbing and bushwacking leads to a pair of 30 ft. steps. The ice usually ends in the rock layer above.

Getting There

don't get wet

In Straight Canyon, park and cross the stream on a log at mile mark 5.9, or cross the stream directly at milemark 6 and head directly up the gully.

Descent

Scramble and down climb rapping off trees where needed.

Essential Gear

The usual ice gear. You may want a rope, if not comfortable downclimbing WI4.
