Times needed :
3 hours for the ascend
- about 50' to get the starting point
- about 75' for the Ferrata
- about 60' to the summit of Corno di Canzo

1½ hours for the descent along the path

Getting There

From the Belvedere (290 m), small built up area belonging to Valmadrera (Lecco), along a good cobbled path up to S. Tomaso.

Herefrom a very wide panomamic view over the Lecco branch of Lario (Colo's Lake) and all the surrounding mountains.
Follow to the right (marks) to get the starting point of the Ferrata.

Route Description

The first part is quite hard due to a certain lack of natural footholds and grips so that you must often climb using the metallic chain.
The second part is almost vertical and exposed but good grips make it less tiring.
Once on the summit of Corno Rat follow along a very steep path into a wood, at its end you can see the summital Cross of the Corno di Canzo.
With no difficulties, along the last part of the Ferrata, up to the summit

A short history

Esattamente un anno dopo, per pura casualità, ci troviamo a ripetere l'ardua ferrata del Corno Rat. Ricominciare da questa, classificata come "difficile", è stata un scelta un pò azzardata. In breve raggiungiamo l'attacco dove incontriamo altre persone già pronte ed attrezzate per affrontare il primo tratto, quello più duro di tutto il percorso.
Il primo tratto richiede notevole sforzo a causa della scarsità di placche ed appigli. A tratti è necessario "tirarsi su" con l'aiuto della catena. Il secondo tratto è molto esposto e verticale ma la presenza di numerose placche oltre agli appigli naturali lo rende meno difficile e più superabile. Arrivati alla vetta del corno Rat ci aspetta un sentiero molto ripido all'interno del bosco. Usciti dalla boscaglia è ben visibile la croce posta in cima al Corno di Canzo. Affrontiamo l'ultimo tratto della ferrata senza nessuna difficoltà e finalmente arriviamo in cima dove alcune capre sembrava fossero lì ad aspettarci.
