Oldenhorn from the south. The East Ridge Route is the left skyline.
Overview
The East Ridge of Oldenhorn is the easiest and safest route on the mountain. It is an excellent tour for families with younger climbers or for those who want a nice outing with excellent views and no technical difficulties. The approach to the ridge does cross a glacier, but most of the way is trail packed for dog sleds and skiers. We encountered no crevasses when we were there in July. However, you will certainly be on glacier and should take appropriate precautions.
Using the cable cars to Sex Rouge, the climb can easily be done in a single day from the valley and depending on connections, from further away.
Approach
From Sex Rouge, cross the upper portion of the Sex Rouge Glacier over the Col de Tsanfleuron to the Tsanfleuron Glacier. Cross the glacier to the saddle at the base of the East Ridge (2737 m).
