Overview

This climb is located in Clear Creek Canyon west of Golden by 6 miles near the east side of tunnel #2, but south of the tunnel entrance. The area is known as Highwire Crag, and the subdivision where this route is located is called the People's Choice Area.

An easy approach brings you to a number of routes including this one. The route receives ample sun in the mornings and stays warm all day. Highwire is probably the most popular area in the canyon for climbing as the routes here are moderate. CCC contains mostly routes in the 5.11 and up range.

While this route itself is one pitch, there is a second above it and the anchors. Once at the anchor, you can traverse a bit left and down the ramp to the second picth of People's Choice at 5.10b which is a two pitch route.

The climbing in CCC is on hard billion plus year old gneiss and the way this rock erodes and weathers, means that there are a lot of hard routes in the canyon. The majority or greatest concentration of climbs here are in the 5.11 and up range.

Getting There

Approach

Take U.S. 6 from Golden ~6.1 miles and park on the right (north) side of the highway just before tunnel 2. Cross south across the street and walk across the bridge until you see a faint climbers trail up on the south side of the tunnel. The trail is 4th class at best, so take caution. N & D's will be the first route you come to.

Route Description

1 Pitch, 50 feet, 7 bolts, 5.8 YDS

N & D

Begin by climbing up steep hard slab towards a large downward facing flake. Crimpy and balancy moves on thin face holds carry you towards the flake. Under cling the flake and move out to climbers left (crux) and continue on thin face holds towards the ledge and anchors.

Descend by lowering, rapping, or waking off down the left (south) sloping ramp.
