0. General: From 1268m to 2046m, exposition S, W and E. At first an easy hike-up through light woods and bushes, then a more steep hike-up over the open terrain. Over a crumbly terrain on screes and up on the notch. Then a ferrata till the west slope, which is easy again. A safe step is needed, steeper grassy slopes can be slippery in wet conditions. Gear: Good shoes and hiking poles. A torch can be very useful in the tunnel.

Route Description

The path No. 648 starts ascending in the N and NW direction, first through light woods and bushes, later over the open terrain. Above, we reach in several switchbacks a small grassy plane, 1749m, where towards the right the path on Monte Piper deters. Our path continues and reaches broad, very crumbly slopes, intermitted with small crags. We cross the slopes and reach the scree field, over which we hike-up in several switchbacks to Forchia di Cjanalot / Èanalut, 1830m (notch).

Now the more interesting and panoramic part of the route begins. We pass many remains of fortifications from the World War I and so ascend on the eastern slopes of Cima Vildiver / Vrh nad Cijanerico. There the bivouac Bernardinis stands. After we pass it, the path soon turns onto the slopes, which are falling on the other side (towards Fella valley / Kanalska dolina). Soon we reach the entry of a tunnel, some 50 meters long. Here a torch can be very useful!

Reaching out of the tunnel, we find ourselves on the other side of the mountain, to the notch between the two peaks we cross a stone bridge and an exposed ledge. After this part the route turns again back on the southern side of Cima Alta. By a completely horizontal, artificially cut ledge we cross the whole vertical southern wall of Cima Alta. Where too exposed, the path is secured with steel cables. So we reach the gentle grassy western slopes and by them in many switchbacks go up on top.

We descend by the same route (or from the point 1749m continue eastwards on Monte Piper and further on Iof di Miezegnot / Poldnašnja špica).
