OverviewThis is a very classic ski route.Very good for the easy accessibility of the base start, for the impressive location of Forni glacier and, for the north side position that permits a long term good condition of the snow.
The ascent could be divided in two days, sleeping at the ref.Branca.
The route
The hotel of Forni (2178m) has a large parking lot where leave the cars.
From the parking it's possible to follow the easy path that leads to ref.Branca, or directly through the torrent and pointing towards the flat area of Glacier Forni.
At this point many traces of skiing spread in various directions.
Make sure exactly which is the S.Matteo, and head towards its slopes.
Arriving near the serracs below Punta Cadini, the slope increases in steep.
Be careful to consider the possible falls of ice blocks in the hottest hours of the day.
Climb till reach a close flat area, where a very steep slope above it, permits to touch the east ridge of the mountains that borders to the Camuno side(upper Valle Camonica).
This slope is very difficult to go out on skis, and crampons may be necessary.
When reached the edge of the ridge, the slender shape of the summit is visible on the right.
Climbing without difficulty exploiting less steep slopes until the top (3678m).
In descent follow the same climb itinarary.
