Overview

The Three Sisters Plus the Brother Loop is an easy hike. Should you choose to summit each rock group, class 3 scrambling opportunities are available. The trail is easy for the family at 4 miles round trip and 640 feet of elevation gain.

Getting There

See the Getting there section on the main page.

Route Description

To begin the loop, proceed east from the parking lot past the facilities and start on the Bluebird Meadow Trail. The trail curves very gently northeast and is mostly flat.

Upon reaching the intersection with the Silver Fox trail, turn left (north). Stay on the trail past two intersections with the Homestead Trail, and watch the beautiful Three Sisters and Brother come into view.

At .4 miles, you will reach the Ponderosa trail. Go Left (North East). You will be leaving a beautiful meadow and entering a light wood. The Trail leads gently upward and eventually (at .9 miles) intersects the Sisters Trail.

Follow the small and gentle switchbacks up the trail to the saddle between the third and second sisters.

If you are a rock climber, or a confident and skilled scrambler, you can climb to the top of the sisters on some fun class 3 rock.

The trail passes between rock formations then descends six rocky switchbacks. When you reach an intersection with the Hidden Fawn trail, go right (South) to continue on the Sisters Trail (1.6 miles in).

At 1.9 miles, you will interstect the Ponderosa Trail again. Go up and Right (West) on the trail climbing the switchbacks. At the intersection of The Brothers lookout Trail. The .2 mile walk leads to a rock outcropping with great views. After visiting the Brother, return to the Ponderosa trail (you are now 2.6 miles in). Hike another .1 miles back to the Sisters Trail. Turn left (West) and retrace your steps back to the Silver Fox Trail (3.3 miles).

Add some variety to your descent by taking the Silver Fox Trail to the Homestead trail and heading right (Northwest). Follow the trail around a cool rock formation and see the remains of thye original Homestead house. You will intersect the Bluebird Meadow trail at 3.8 miles. Follow the trail back to your car!

Essential Gear

Trail shoes would suffice, but scrambler are always encouraged to wear hiking boots with plenty of tread.

Though this trail is short, be sure to bring plenty of water! The area gets very hot during the summer, and dehydration is a danger to those who are not in shape. ALWAYS stay hydrated!
