Overview

Adirondike is a fun climb, worth a day, especially if you combine it with another climb like avalance mountain gulley. the walk in and out will probably take longer than the climb but it is generally flat plan for about a 2-3 hour walk in at a moderate pace with showshoes. it is possible to ski right to the base of the climb on the lake which would make for a much shorter approach. the climb takes about 2-3 hours depending on your skill level and speed of course.

Getting There

The bet place to park is the adk loj just outside of lake placid. From the loj head in to avalance lake, signs will guide you the whole way. if the lake is not frozen well enough to walk on you might have to find another climb, i dont think you can access it without walking on the lake. the start of the climb is just to the left of the trap dike. in the picture the trap dike is the large dike on the right and the adirondike is the shorter flow on the left.

Route Description

the first pitch will be wide and fairly steep, follow the best looking ice to the trees on the left of the climb, or make an anchor. the last pitch or two is a bit less steep, just follow the dike til it fills with snow and ends, there will be a tree with slings at the end. to descend rappel with a single 70 meter rope or to 60 meter ropes, a single 60 meter rope might be to short.

Essential Gear

10 ice screws of various length is plenty. one 70m or two 6o m ropes. maybe some webbing and rap rings for trees if the ones already there look sketchy.
