The Rocher Canon yellow circuit is a succession of 48 boulder problems (+ alternates) in the same range of difficulty.
The yellow circuits throughout the Fontainebleau Forest represent the PD difficulty level.
PD stands for Peu Difficile (moderately difficult). This level is between F (Facile/easy) and AD (Assez Difficile/quite difficult).
The grades are between 2- and 3- (UIAA III to IV).
Such a circuit is just perfect in order to get an idea of the different types of situations which will be found at all levels in Fontainebleau.
It is a beginners circuit, with good landings, but can of course be run through as a "jogging" for intermediate climbers.
The Rocher Canon yellow circuit is very well traced, not polished, and it is almost possible not to step on the earth, since lower rocks are to be found between the numbered boulder problems.
We only need to follow the sequence of numbers and the discrete arrows indicating the direction between the blocks.
Getting there
A big parking lot signposted "Site du Rocher Canon" is to be found along the D 142 E road between Melun and Fontainebleau (click the coordinates in the above primary info).
Our circuit starts 3 min away from the parking lot (follow the boardwalk, then make a right turn).
Local trains (Ter) leaving Paris (Gare de Lyon station) stop at the Bois-le-Roi train station. It's a 30 min walk through the woods from the train station (due WSW) to Rocher Canon. Map: 1:25000 IGN (Institut Geographique National) Nr.2417 OT (Foret de Fontainebleau)
Red tape
Wild camping and open fires are not allowed. Chalk is hardly (or rather not) used in Fontainebleau, therefore resin (pof) comes in handy.
Camping and Motel
Further circuits of all grades are to be found at the Rocher Canon site.
