Overview

The new via ferrata on Croda di Cengles (m.3375)(Tschenglser Hochwand) is the latest interesting path to the summit (2002). Exposed, in the starting section quite difficult but very well ensured with a good steel fixed wire.

Getting There

From Solda (Sulden) m.1960 by Pulpito(Kanzel) chair-lift (or following the marked route nr.5 from Solda) to Rifugio Serristori (Dusseldorfer Hutte)(m.2721). Then following the path to Croda di Cengles normal route, ascending along the steep stony slope until the crossroads with normal route and old ferrata Otto Erich Steig. Take the right(wooden route sign), following a narrow and exposed ledge until the fixed cable.

Route Description

The route starts off with a vertical climbing for a few meters, very exposed, then continues with less difficulty along short walls and pillars, always well protected, reaching the final ridge, from where along the normal route (waymarks on the rocks, and some final artificial steps) to the summit. For the descent: along the waymarks on the ridge until the route followed to get there.

Essential Gear

A normal gear for via ferrata is required:helmet, harness, complete ferrata set (double locking key lock carabiners, two short ropes UIAA connected to an Energy Absorption System (EAS)), gloves.
