Overview

Thin Chance is the center of the 3 pure ice routes in the Amphitheatre. It is found about 40m right of Fat Chance, and is impossible to miss. Though popular and easily accessed, this climb can become difficult quick if conditions are not good. It can be anywhere from a fat angling block of ice to a thin, barely touching icicle.

Approach

Begin at the Grotto Falls trailhead. Hike a short distance (15 minutes) up the trail to the big amphitheatre on the left. Hike up the talus or snow field, depending on the season, to the left side of the amphitheatre. The climb is right of the large bulge of ice running down the left end of the amphitheatre. Its a short one, but a worthwile climb when combined with the other amphitheatre climbs.

Route Description

Climb up the pillar, which could be at or above WI4, depending on conditions. There are anchors on trees at the edge of the cliff, but you should avoid these. They are for toproping the mixed climb White Zombie to the left. Instead, continue up the hill to a tree anchor some 15m from the cliff edge and use this as a toprope anchor.
