For Rustler Park, see the main page for road directions.
For Long Park, drive past the camping areas at Rustler and go left at a Y-junction to the FS guard station. Find a gated road at the end of this small complex and pass through it. Long Park is 1.4 miles south. The road is very rocky and steep.
Crest Trail (270) is the main thoroughfare, with numerous side trails everywhere. The junctions are well-signed and route finding is very simple.
From Rustler Peak follow a short spur from the parking area up to the Crest Trail and follow it south to the peak. There are a lot of switchbacks near the start, and the trail meanders a little more than it should perhaps. A lot of extra distance is added at the start.
From Long Park, follow a spur about 2/3 mile south to catch the Crest Trail, and on to the summit. From Long Park the summit is just 3.5 miles one way and 600 feet of net gain (900 feet gross).
An option that combines the two is to park at Rustlers Park CG and hike the road to Long Park, then catch the trail. This cuts off about a mile each way, roughly, but isn't as scenic.
Nothing out of the ordinary. In fall wear orange. This range is popular with hunters. It's also black bear country. Keep an eye out!
