Solitude  Sucess!

Pretty slow going in the sections where the trail is hard to follow- crossing the ravines and such. Downhill is slow going with the fields of loose rock. Took us 5 hrs roundtrip. Still amazing, didn't see anyone else on the trail on a great weather Saturday morning.

Log Book in the tin at the summit is full.

Desert lovers paradise  Sucess!

I have climbed numerous sections of Saddle Mountain on several occasions. One of my favorite getaways close to home. The north side seems to be the most visited due to it's easier accessibility and dispersed camping. An experienced driver with a capable high clearance 4x4 and adequate supplies will find stunning and less traveled views around the west and south side as well. Be prepared for some tricky maneuvering. Rockhounders flock here to collect fire agate. There are many beautiful crystal and chalcedony specimens as well. Each time I go, I take a couple buckets and pack out as many shell casings as I can stand. They are unfortunately plentiful.

Fantastic scenery!  Sucess!

Great desert hike with fantastic scenery. Saw a big diamond back rattler next to the trail. Great views and solitude.

Cold spell  Sucess!

Took advantage of a "cold spell", temps about 75 F in May, to hike this peak with Scott Peavy. Fast and efficient. The trail helps. Views are outstanding!
