Sail Swallowtail

Sail Swallowtail

The Sail Swallowtail (Iphiclides podalirius) belongs to the Papilionidae Family and it is a beautiful addition to any mountain range in Poland. It is also often called the Scarce Swallowtail. It can be seen on sunny slopes and mountain glades. In the Low Beskid it can be found on plants such as Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), Bird Cherry (Prunus padus) and Common Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna). Because the number of Sail Swallowtails have been decreasing, the species is now protected by law. The Low Beskid - Glade near Black Creek- Rymanow Zdroj - August 12, 2008.
