Salt Lake Valley Sunset

Salt Lake Valley Sunset

Vivid sunset colors over low clouds in the Salt Lake Valley. These clouds blew into the Salt Lake Valley for about an hour before sunset. Taken from around 9800 feet in Beartrap Fork before a twilight ski descent, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Wasatch, Utah. 1-28-10.

Re: Wow...

Thanks, Marc. Taking in a sunset like that from 10,000 feet before a ski descent is a pretty special day.

Re: Awesome Glow!

Thanks. It happened to be an especially amazing Western sunset. We were talking about doing a sunset tour for about a week, and we lucked out big with this one.

Excellent Capture.....

What a beautiful moment....you captured it well. I feel a picture of the Day coming on. Would you mind if I added this one to my Sunsets and Sunrises of the Wasatch Album?

Re: Excellent Capture.....

Oh and so I did. I have been waiting for someone to post an outstanding picture of Nelson Peak for quite some time. Well done....it fits nicely on the Oquirrh Page. Keep up the masterpieces Sisyphus.

Echoing the TWINS comments:

What an astounding view of Nelson & the Oquirrhs !!!

And, those are natural clouds, because I don't see any "yellow gunk" in them. : ))

Inversion?

So, I work for a company headquartered in SLC. And I know when the sky looks like this...what's going on. ;) All the asthmatics are puffing away on their inhalors and we don't see the sun for days - like Seattle. ;)

Beautiful pic, though.

Re: Inversion?

Ha. Yeah, usually it's the particulate matter in the air that produces a sunset like this, but the cloud cover in the photo rolled in above the inversion near sunset, so those are actually real clouds.
