Took forever to get down!  Sucess!

Vivian Creek is a great route. Beautiful day, great hike, lots of sun, not too many people on the trail. We did this hike exactly a year earlier and got rain, sleet and hail. Both hikes were killer. The last couple miles back to the car seem to take FOREVER :-)

I 'm outta shape!  Sucess!

Great hike via the Vivian Creek Trail, although around 1.5 miles from the summit I was doggin' it pretty bad. But was able to push through and make the summit. Gorgeous day, a little cold but I was prepared for that.

San Gorgonio - Jepson Solo from Vivian Creek  Sucess!

Went into this hike with more ambition than energy as I wanted to tag Bighorn and Dragon's Head as well. No joy on the last two. The weather on top was cloudy, very windy and about 30 degrees. Only saw 2 others on top and unfortunately one missed the turnoff for Vivian and headed about 2 miles up South Fork Trail before realizing his mistake. Thankfully, he made it back a little after sunset.

almost there  Sucess!

I had never been to this mountain and this time I just planned the trip horribly. I had bought new boots the night before and not thinking I decided to break them in on the mountain. My climbing partner was 2 hours late to my house because he slept in and we didnt arrive until about 10am.

The goal was to summit, right. We made it pretty far considering my feet where killing me but i kept on. A blister started to form and later in the day started to bleed. We got just past high creek to find out that there was near 5 miles. (Again planned this at the last minute and didnt get to look at the details.) We walked a little bit longer until I wimped out and finally said my foot couldnt handle it, my shoe was soaked in blood. It took about an hour and a half to descend.

I thought deep about the mountain and about how disappointed I was to not finish it. I went home, thought about it some more and read some. I found out that all the hard stuff was over with after we passed high creek. Since then Ive been trying to get out there to finish. Im hoping in about 2-3 weeks after the park reopens from the fires. Just goes to show how much planning you should do.

First Big One  Sucess!

This was my second attempt at the mountain. The first time I had just moved to California and thought it would be a good idea to randomly climb a mountain in the winter. To say the least we didn't make it! Second attempt we hit a snow storm, all but myself and my friend Jesse turned back. The top was so bone chilling (and we were under-dressed) that we could only take a few pics and run back down. Snow made it impossible to see the trail so we just bombed it as much as we could. Great Climb lots of snow!

Snow in SoCal  Sucess!

Snow in Southern Cal in July. How great is that by itself. Hiked via Vivian Creek Trail. I love that kinda Shangri-La setting at around 7200' with the stream running through. Summited over Thanksgiving overnighter a year ago also.

Vivian Trail  Sucess!

This was one of the good wet years. We were spending a week at Forest Home Christain Camp and Conference Center. We took a day off to hike the Vivian trail from Forest Falls. I was 45 and my sons were ages 15 & 11. We started a little before 7 am. We reached the top before 1pm and made it back to the car by 5pm. There was plenty of opportunity to fill water bottles along the first half of the way. The first mile or so the trail was a little steeper with loose rocks. The rest of the trail was a more pleasent walk.

SGW is a Different World from LA  Sucess!

Have climbed from South Fork (Dry and Dollar Lakes) and Aspen Grove. South Fork is unlike anything in SoCal during a wet year. Will try it next from Vivian.

My brother and I went up Vivian Creek and enjoyed the top for the first time. Longer, but fairly straightforward day hike.

San G via Fish Creek  Sucess!

A long, long walk but entirely worth it. I think this trail is way underrated. I felt as though I had the entire mountain to myself!

Cold Summer Night on Top  Sucess!

I've climbed this mountain several times throughout the years. This was the first time I attempted the grand loop though, starting from Vivian Creek, then descending down through Dry Lake to South Fork, then making my way up Dollar Lake, exiting out of Momyer Trail. Great experience, highly recommend this backpacking route.

Vivien Creek fave...  Sucess!

I have climbed this mountain many times, spring and fall. I have even used crampons over the top ice fields. That was fun! I would really like to do a severe winter stay with all the gear along. And, try some technical climbing on the Jepson north face when it's all snowed in...
