First peak on a Nine Peaks dayhike with Glenn. I think there were more people on the summit than any other peak I've climbed, except maybe for Half Dome.

It was a nice hike, There was still a bit of snow and it was very windy at the top. It was cool to see Baldy and San Jacinto from the top.

Hit San G. as the first of the 9 peaks trail. Left the trailhead at 6am, had the summit by 9:30am. Nice day, came out in Angelus Oaks.

Climbed as the second mountain in the So Cal 8000m challenge. What a brutal day.

The Mill Creek is another route not noted here. It is long hike. The trail starts at about 6,500 feet, so it is 5000 foot vertical gain. The Vivian Creek is much easier.

Took South Fork Trail and stayed the night at Dry Lake View. Touched the summit and hiked back around passed Dry Lake and out through Horse Meadows. Winter climb w/ off-trail ridge traverse. Views opened up once the summit ridge was gained. Amazing in the winter.

A great way to train for longer trips. Long trail, steep for first mile or so, then a moderate hike to the summit. Leave early. Way early. It gets way hot up there.

I did it for the 2 nd time. This time is tire; may be because I push too hard; I wanted to go up there earlier with my new hiking boot. BUT I STILL ENJOY IT.

It took me 12 hours to go up and down. But I didn't feel tire after that. I will go again, again.

Did this a few times as a kid to get ready for longer hikes, hasn't changed , still a death march.

Wow, this is a long route, yet if you are planning on camping at the peak it is worth the trek, there are several rock shelters at the top and the good view of your next climb, San Jacinto.

It was harder than I thought. Should have brought crampons because my snowshoes were worthless on the icy slopes. A jolt of realism hitting the naive mountaineer in my head. Good times.

Long and hot day. Hiked up via the Vivian Creek trail. Also did Bighorn Mountain, Dragons Head, Jepson, Dobbs, Charlton, and Little Charlton. Returned via Dollar Lake Saddle and the Falls Creek Trail. To save weight I dumped almost all my water shortly on the way up thinking that the nice blue "tarn" on the topo would be a good place for water. May as well have been death valley. Never got more water until late in the day on the way down the Falls Creek trail. I must be part desert tortoise though because I've never had a problem with dehydration.

I've summited via Vivian Creek 3 times to-date. 1st done as a 2-day backpack in May 2001, then as a dayhike in July 2002, then finally as a backpack up to sleep on the summit in October 2003. One of my favorite SoCal trails!

A buddy and I made a late summer push up San Gorgonio, and tarped it on the top. Water was scarce on the way up due to a dry summer, but the nighttime view was unbeatable. The cars on the freeway in the valley gave an almost serpent-like view from the top. I highly encourage spending the night on the top of this peak in one of the many rock shelters, and then quietly making your way off the peak in the early morning light. We were lucky enough to come across 7-10 bighorn sheep on the trail, at one time not more than 75 feet away. A ranger at the bottom was shocked to hear of our experience, saying that seeing them is highly unusual. We were blessed!

Day hiked from the parking lot both times. Got altitude sick both times too. A tough hike if done in one day with no acclimation. First time, I missed the turn-off to the Vivian Creek trail near the summit on my way down. Headed down some other trail for a mile or so, had to back-track. Lost my friends, who had hit the trail turn-off and were now in front of me. Went back up, caught the right trail, and jogged all the way down. Caught my friends 1 mile from the car.

Had a great run on the mountain this morning with very few people out on the trails. A bit of Fall color showing in the leaves. It was windy on top but still a nice day. I took the S. Fork trail up and headed for Dry Lake, Mineshaft Saddle and on to the top. Returned by running down the other trail past the Dollar Lake trail junction and back down to the trailhead completing a big CW loop on a stem. One of my best days on the mountain out of several visits over the years. 3 hours up , 2 down.
