San Jacinto Peak, 10,834', bracing against the tempest

This was winter solstice '99. It was below freezing and the steady wind was about 50 mph. Notice my corduroy jeans furiously flapping! The only fools on the peak that day were me and a couple of other hikers who took this pic. It was 70 degrees, warm and sunny in Palm Springs, 10,400' and only 7 miles below to the east which gives you some idea of the tremendous unthrust of this scarp.

Whew ...

If that wind had been any stronger,
you might have ended up at the Trout Farm in
Whitewater with a fishin' pole between your
legs!

Let me guess ... you talked to the wind, but
the wind did not hear?

Re: Whew ...

I yelled at the wind but my words were shot across Coachella Valley like a blast from a 12 gauge!
