| In combination with the tramway ride to get to Round Valley this route is a cool and unuasual way to summit a mountain! The 11-mile roundtrip class 1 trail was all snowed over with a light amount of post-holing without using snowshoes. The 2500' elevation gain felt fast like back on the gondola getting instant altitude. Great 360 degree views from top rock ...don't forget to look for the cool town of Idylwild or the Pacific Ocean. TRIP TIME: 2.5hrs up/1.5hrs down. | ||

| Did this day hike as a training hike for Mt. Whitney the following summer. Very pretty hike. There was a little bit of snow left but we were fine with just hiking poles. Thinking about doing San Jacinto again in the snow to help train for Mt. Shasta, which I'll be doing this June. | ||

| 13 hour day hike with my brother, starting at Humber Park. Great weather with clear views all around. The lights at night were pretty. There were some icy patches where crampons were nice. We made it with one crampon and two sticks each. I would recommend crampons or snowshoes and an ice axe or hiking poles. There is snow on the Devil's slide trail, although there are some dirt parts lower down on it. Some parts of that trail are narrow and icy, though. The trail from Humber Park to Wellman's Divide was easy enough to find. Past that, on the way up we went along the trail route contouring mostly level on the east side of Jean Peak, and then we hiked straight up (the long switchback to Miller was useless under the snow) to the saddle between Jean and Jacinto, but going back we went over the summit of Jean and then down to Wellman's Divide, which was a route that a couple of the other guys on the summit had taken. | ||

| I have always had a love for San Jacinto. The six times I was on top were great moments in my life. I once camped on top with my dad, and the lights at night were unbelievable. I hope one day to visit SoCal and do the Palms to Pines trail. | ||

| Via Marion Mountain Trail w/ Rob. Great day. This was the first trail I took as prep for Whitney a few years ago (6/06). Have also come up from Fuller Ridge and Round Valley. Just a great peak. | ||

| Climbed via Devil's Slide. Great workout, and a magnificent summit, with some snow still at top. Also climbed at the end of June, 2010. More snow on top than the year before, even a month later! Went up Marion Mountain Trail this time and returned over Jean Peak and Marion Mtn, then down the same trail. 3rd time in October 2011 via Fuller Ridge. San J is definitely my favorite mountain in SoCal! | ||

| Tried to summit this during the winter...and passed a ranger with a baklava on his face....wait that's a dessert. You know what I mean a special scarf covering his face. It was then I realized I was a little in over my head. Second times a charm!!! Years Climbed: 2007,2008 | ||

| Climbed San Jacinto Peak multiple times in all seasons by various routes (from Idyllwild, tram, Snow Creek etc.) in 2003-2007. Beautiful mountain, great views (sometimes you can even see the ocean)! | ||

| Nice hike, took the Round Valley route. Pretty hot temps near the base, but the top was very comfortable. Got buzzed by a ultralight plane at the peak, very cool! | ||

| I set up camp in Dark Valley on the Idyllwild side with my wife the day before. We drove around and took the tram up. After strolling the desert view trail with my wife I climbed the peak then hiked the nine miles back to camp while she drove back around. The 3.8 miles of the Seven Pine Trail was brutal on my feet and knees. Just too steep of a downhill for the end of a long day. | ||

| Faith & I started at the museum at 6.26- in retrospect, given the time of year (one of the longer days), earlier would have been greatly preferable... Our attempts throughout the day to 'beat the heat' by gaining elevation more rapidly than the escalating temperature proved futile until around 6,000', where the temp's were finally tolerable. It was probably worst around 4k', where the desert brush does a great job of retaining the heat while not providing any notable shade. The average temperature during the day felt somewhere between 85 - 90 deg. Ugh... Fortunately we brought enough water, & eventually made it to the tram (we popped up on the 'rim' at 15.39). By that point we were completely wasted, though (amazing how the combination of sun/heat can just completely take it out of you...), & the combination of that & fear we would be pushing it (esp. at our pace at that point) making it back to the last tram in time just led us to the tram down. Actually I think we were both of the opinion that a cold beer & tram ride down sounded substantially more appealing than continuing. This must be done proper, though (i.e. to the summit)- I shall return! | ||
