San Juan (5843m) and Huantsán (6369m)

San Juan (5843m) and Huantsán (6369m)
... from high on Jatunmontepuncu to the NNW.

The normal route on Nevado San Juan follows the WNW ridge, coming from the right. Looks dangerous to me! The cloud obscures where to access the ridge.

The normal route on Nevado Huantsán, which is further away, also comes from the right. The serious difficulties begin on the steep ridge on the right hand side of the shaded triangle. From there, The route keeps following the connected ridges, culminating in the steep N ridge which is seen almost head on here. Who knows, maybe someday I can try it, if I'm in good shape and find a strong partner.

Yes, they most certainly are!

Of these two, I especially like Huantsán. That summit pyramid looks so beautiful, yet it's so difficult to climb: a perfect combination! I've seen it from far away and from a bit closer, and from various sides and angles, and it always looks impressive. I'd like to have a close up look one day ...
