Stewart Creek Std. Route  Sucess!

Enjoyed a beautiful summer morning on the most remote 14er in CO! The trail started off with a nice, meandering route through the trees before it finally started to steepen around timberline. The hardest part was the climb from timberline to the saddle. From there on out, it was an easy ridge walk to the summit. Started at 7:00AM, summitted at 10:45, and back at the car at 2:30PM. This was a nice, relatvely easy hike...but it was quite LONG. The last mile through the meadow felt never-ending.

Perfect Day!  Sucess!

Nice hike up to 14,014 with fellow SP'er Patrick Vall and son. Not much snow left up high - a lot of wildlife - and wildflowers starting to bloom...

Stewart Creek Trail  Sucess!

My first San Juan 14er. I hiked with three other guys, two of whom were ultramarathon trail runners. We left our campsite just after 6AM and reached the summit just before 9:30. Mike and Matt, the trail runners, descended into Cochetopa Gulch to run the Colorado Trail back to camp. Kevin and I headed east to attempt Organ Mtn. There was a mean looking storm brewing to the southeast, so we summited Point ~13480 before turning back. We tried glissading down into Stewart Creek valley, but the snow was too soft. We returned to the campsite at about 1PM. Mike and Matt got there about an hour before us.

Crazy Weather  Sucess!

We had tons of clouds, tons of rain and once on the ridge, tons of wind. Started from the Stewart Creek TH. The visibility was about 20 feet once we were on the ridge. We stayed in the clouds all the way to the top. When we got to the summit the clouds parted a little and I could see the surrounding hill sides. It was almost magical - to be in the clouds for so long and never see what was around me and then finally I could see it all - it was beautiful. On our way back to the ridge the clouds would surround us and then lift every once in a while to give us a view. I did Mt. Elbert the day before and Wheeler (NM) the day after. It was a great trip!

14 of 14  Sucess!

Fourteenth of 14 14ers in 11 days. San Juan 14er finisher and a nice gentle one to finish on. A bit disheartening to round the ridge and see that the peak I thought was San Luis was not, but a good day nonetheless.

San Luis Peak via Stewart Creek TH  Sucess!

Camped at the TH and started up with my friend Kevin at 6:05AM. Met up with some friends from Louisville (coincidence)and enjoyed a good morning hike to the summit. Plenty of good weather and people with the same goal. Reached the summit at 9:28 and back to the TH by 1:25PM. My 36th 14'er.........way sweet!

Stewart Creek  Sucess!

While they look close on the map, Wetterhorn and San Luis are very far apart. 42 miles of dirt road to be exact. I enjoyed San Luis for its remote location and scenery...at least until i reached the talus above 13k.

Gorgeous Day on San Luis  Sucess!

After making the mistake of trying to get on the ridge too soon and having to downclimb a little, we made it to the summit. Perfect weather, not too much snow. Saw/heard a couple of beavers in the morning. :)

Yawner Gullies Ski Descent  Sucess!

Skinned from the mine to the summit and back. With road closures and snow conditions, this ended up being a 16 mile, 6000' day. Too easy!

Climbed S Ridge, Skied Yawner Gullies  Sucess!

Climbed the South Ridge from the Equity Mine with a ski descent of the Yawner Gullies. It was an awesome day, but quite the slog with the climb out of the basin and rotten snow all the way down the 4x4 road.
