Sand Lizard

Sand Lizard

Sand Lizards (Lacerta agilis) can be found in the Polish mountains up to the elevations of 1200 meters. Males are darker than females and turn green during the mating season. Sand Lizards are about 20 cm long and have a light underbelly. During winter they hibernate in soil. They come out in March or April and spend their days sunning themselves. Sand Lizards are under strict protection in Poland as well as throughout most of Europe. The Low Beskid - June 14, 2008.
