Its a pretty nice peak...I can't say much about the view since it was in the clouds when we were up there, but I would use the Holy Jim Trail that starts in Trabucco Canyon. Its a fairly long trail, but it is maintained very very well. Also, it takes you across some classic Southern California landscape. Are you going to do Modjeska Peak too?

Also, when you go, I wouldn't go in the summer. All the springs will be dried up and it will be a miserable day because it can get really hot out.
