These two videos are from people that climbed onto the erupting dome, the first during an eruption and the second of walking into the crater. Most of what you can see there is/are solidified lava flows rather than ash piles. Sometimes when there are larger explosions, ash and other rock fragments go get mixed in.

Yup, I love your words of wisdom on these
beautiful volcanoes!

I still need to take my wife up to Yellowstone.
Also, there's several volcanoes in the Philippines "Ring of Fire" we need to explore.
