huskertriguyNice Training Hike
Date Climbed: May 13, 2016

Unfortunately started late in the day, flew in to GEG at 11 a.m. so did not get started until 2:30 p.m.

A couple friendly guys were shooting skeet along the road and warned of recent bear sightings, which had me concerned about getting back to the car well before sundown.

Beautiful hike, but when I got to the top of the clearing where the snow led to some post-holing and route-finding and saw the time was 4:30, I chose to turn back.

At the trailhead, I saw two guys heading up at 6:15, hoping to summit. I wonder if they made it.

Bummed to not have summited, but the views of the lake were worth it nevertheless!

Took Scotchman Peak Trail. Several mountain goats on summit looking for salt. Smoky day, views were somewhat obscured.

Climbed this with my two oldest (11 and 8), and a friend. The smoke had finally cleared off today so we had some great views. About three hours up and one and a half down. No goats but saw two moose on the way down.

Stopped in real quick on my way home from the Bonners Ferry area. It was pouring rain at the trail head, and a blinding blizzard at the top! Followed the trail up to about 5500 ft. where the snow took over and the trail was lost. Postholed the last 1500 feet straight up to the ridge and on to the summit through some nasty shin deep breakable crust from the recent weather. Pretty easy 3.5 hr. RT but an excellent mountain that I definitely want to revisit and actually get to see the awesome views that I've only heard about. Made it back to Missoula in time for the Stanley Cup Final!

Very beautiful, even though we got socked in at the top -- cool rocks up there. Two goats on the summit. The bottom portion of this trail is a real calf burner!

Continuing my streak of at least one top Idaho prominence peak per year. Beautiful blue sunny day albeit a little hot. Around 20 people on the summit today.

Looks like a nice peak based on the pictures. I wouldn't know since I didn't see much of it inside of the cloud I was in.

Top third of the mountain still covered in snow, but snow conditions were perfect. No goats this time. The weather was cloudy and windy with summit temperature at 38 F.

Being new to climbing in 2007, we had read how hard a hike this was and made it our last trip of the year. After hiking all year we found this trip a great one to end the season. The views were good with only minor smoke haze from some fires in Washington. Didn't get to see any goats, maybe next time.

This is the first peak I ever climbed and it made me love mountains. It was the starting point of my whole climbing career.

Brian JenkinsBirthday hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 2, 2007

With my buddy Bill from Spokane. Not really my birthday but nicely sandwiched in between mine and his 40th birthdays by a couple days. Surprised it only took about an hour and a half with as much elevation gain as there is. Great views in all directions. As we were chatting with some other hikers, a goat came up behind us and circled the 4 of us within about 3 feet, I guess looking for salty urine. He dug around the rocks and licked at something. Had a good beer and an excellent calamari sandwich at Eichardt's in Sandpoint afterwards -- highly recommended.

Climbed with Teri. Muddy road provided thrills and spills on mountain bikes. Ditched bikes at TH and ran into solid snow about halfway up the ridge. Great postholing fun up to our necks on the way down LOL.

A little hungover in the morning but once we got moving, no problems. It was a steep and tiring climb but lots of fun. The views from the top were awesome. Lake Pend Oreille is amazing and it was awesome to see from the summit.

Perfect day to climb the mountain, my dog and I started fairly early to beat the heat. We ran into the goat at the bottom of the rocks and followed it all the way to the top. No fires around yet and clear weather so it was an awesome view in all directions. Glad old Packer was on the leash, he tried to jump out on the edge of the cornice! He's still hasn't learned the physics of that yet.

I did this one on my way to Glacier National Park. I started late in the day after driving nine hours from Portland. Saw a moose on the way to the TH. I made it to the top in time to see a nice sunset and views which were partially obstructed by multiple wildfires. The goats were also neat to see.

dludersWondrous Day with 3 Mountain Goats!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 1, 2006

I solo-climbed this fabulous mountain after an 11-year absence. The views were spectacular on this cool, September day. Near the summit, I spotted 3 Mountain Goats about 150 yards distant. After I had spent 45 minutes on the summit, one of the goats (a large male) followed my path and joined me on the summit! He was only 10 feet away! I feel fortunate to have witnessed three of Nature's magnificant wild creates in such a special setting.

Since I'm 49 years old (in OK hiking shape), it took me 3-1/2 hours to climb up and 1-3/4 hours to get down. I highly recommend bringing trekking poles and a gallon of water. Once past the treeline, keep quiet and look around on the ridges for the Scotchman Peak goats!

I saw fresh bear tracks in the parking mud-bath (very rainy for several days before) when I arrived. Only two other people on the trail up higher. Low visibility once I reached around 6000 feet, then I saw a local goat. Very cool. The clouds broke for moments while I was on top. Heavenly views!
