| Holsti97 | Seneca Rocks ![]() Date Climbed: Apr 14, 2006 | |
| Climbed via the Seneca Rocks Trail. Nice hike and views from the platform on top. Scrambled on rocks above platform and then hiked to the true summit of the mountain. Looks like very few people climb all of the way to the top. The other side of the mountain is even more beautiful. | ||

| Very fun climb in winter conditions--ice and snow on shelves made what would have been easy 4th and 5th class climbing a fun adventure. Nobody was out at the park except for hunters... peaceful day alone on the formation! | ||

| Took the trail up to overlook, jumped the railing and scrambled up and out across the top of the formation...awesome views and exposure for a rock climbing wannabe... that part of WV is beautiful... | ||

| My first multi-pitch trad experience. I basically got the grand tour, got on some really classic routes in Seneca. Very fun! Thanks to Hung, who led everything we climbed. | ||

| Climbed with Steve Must and UC climbing club. Did not know that the top of the Conns' East flake has a couple of bolts now. It used to have a manky WWII piton and I felt better after we backed it up with #1 or 2 friend. The Gendarme tipped over in 1987, but it was pretty exciting in 1986-glad I got to follow it but found the unclip at the summit to do the rappell from the Gendarme to be a puckering experience. | ||

| A buddy & myself, were there taking a 3-day lead climbing course. What an excellent place for trad-climbing! It's in a scenic area, with a small-time country feel to it. There's good camping close by. Just avoid the weekends! | ||

| My favorite climbing area, probably always will be. Learned a lot about climbing and leading here. Got engaged on the summit (see CharlesD's log). If I could climb there every weekend, I would. | ||

| I've been knocking around Seneca since getting turned on to climbing there back in June of 1998. I met my fiance there a year later and proposed to her on the south summit (after she lead all four pitches of Old Man's Route) in June of 2003. If we could get the brides maids up there, we would probably be married on the summit. Wonderful place. | ||

| I had to work in Huntington, WV for a day by myself so I decided that, since the flight was on the firm's tab, I would make a vacation of it. I took the rest of the week off and drove the rental car to Seneca Rocks. Since I was alone I hired a guide by the name of Dave from The Gendarme Climbing Shop to be my climbing buddy for the day. We climbed several routes during the day but made it to the South Summit via Ecstacy Jr (first 2 pitches), The Prune (first 2 pitches), LeGourmet (3rd pitch), and then the summit ridge. It was my first experience on big vertical rock. I loved it and can't wait to get back up there with friends. | ||

| Nice, easy short hike. I must say it is amazing how narrow the Seneca Rocks are. It is also interesting that that line of rocks runs along the ridgeline of several hills all running in a straight line. It appears that a line of tougher, metemorphic rock, outlasted the surrounding sedimentary rock, thus leaving the "backbone" of rock along this ridge. | ||

| Seneca Rocks will be in my Heart, forever. Led my first climbs there this spring and actually felt that one could die on a 5.4 (Breakneck)....but I didn't !!! It whetted my appetite for more. Followed that incredible overhang on West Pole ( could that really be only 5.6?) and found Ye Gods & Little Fishes to be Wonderfully challenging.......I'll be back for more !!!!! | ||
