Sentinel, Sandias, New Mexico

The Sentinel is the prominent pinnacle that stands on the upper south rim of Chimney Canyon, Sandia mountains, NM. This photo is taken from the east side - the climbing routes are located on the west side.
Approach: Park in teh upper Sandia Crest Parking lot. Follow the fence line of the communication towers to the west, and follow a good trail down the east side of the mountain for a few switchbacks. There is a 4th class scramble along the way. The trail continues down to the Sentinel. You walk along the north side of sentinel to reach the climbing area.
Hiking time down to the Sentinel is about 1/2 hr.
