Biggest trees, deepest canyon, tallest mountain...

Been back for many walks all around the two parks, but the real treasure for me is their High Sierra backcountry. There is hardly a more beautiful mountainscape on Earth, sublime in its desolation and remoteness.

DebBagging Peaks and Rock Climbing  Sucess!

Been through the park a few times to rock climb and bag peaks. Also through-hiked from Onion Valley in a day with a snow storm.

We took a week road trip from Vegas to Whitney to Tahoe to Sequoia and back to Vegas (and other places in between.) This was where everything started for me. When I saw the majestic mountains of Sierra and the scenery along this road trip, nothing stopped me for going back every year ever since.

Date Climbed: Aug 10, 2009

Flew into San Diego and drove to the Kearsarge trailhead approximately 10 miles west of Independence. My lungs worked overtime gathering oxygen molecules from the thin mountainous air as perspiration streaked across my face as I hauled my 70 pound pack towards Kearsarge Pass. Why I packed enough provisions for an extended trek across Antarctica is beyond me. Visited Charlotte Lake, hiked over Glen Pass to visit beautiful Rae Lakes before heading southbound on the JMT for Mt. Whitney. The scenery and weather were fabulous.

We hiked into Kings Canyon via the Kearsage Pass route. This was a stunning hike, and one that i would highly recommend! Next, we summited Mt Whitney, entering Sequoia NP. Whitney is one for the ages, and a must do for all, whether you take the Whitney Trail, Mountaineer's Route, or the John Muir Trail. I will return to Sequoia/Kings Canyon to further explore one day!

Great memories in the SEKI. I have just relaxed here with the family on summer camping trips and also climbed Charlotte Dome. Lots to do in the SEKI.
