Re: Nice!Thanks for the comment rgg. Yeah the full size resolution looks much better (even the one posted here is only about 40%)- thanks for noticing! I usually cut them down to save space and load faster, but this morning wish I had loaded the highest resolution. When I get home I'll put the largest size up... lots of detail in it.
Iffy weather never materialized and it ended up making for a great trip. Thanks again!

Re: Nice!I know what you mean with the resolution. My own monitor is not exactly new and limited to 1024 by 768, which was just fine for the full size version of this picture. Only occasionally do I like to see more details and then I'm happy when I can zoom in. In other cases I don't need anything bigger, because downloading really large ones takes longer.

But just updated the photo to the highest resolution. Not sure how much different it is for your screen, but I like it!
(this was the first time I'd been up high on a mountain like this with a small dusting... I'm sure many others have seen views like this numerous times, but I was enjoying every moment) Thanks Rob!

Re: Great shot Chad!I guess you had plenty of snow. I understand climbing Shasta late season without snow is to face plenty of unwanted scree, etc.

Re: Great shot Chad!Well it was different than the norm... it was a snowless hike in to camp, but really just like hiking cross country, the scree not bad at all. Then up the Bolam Glacier which is normally about like a snowfield, but we encountered small waves of ice with fresh powder in between. Tedious but interesting, even fell in a crevasse right below the bergschrund (a rare occurrence on that route).
From there up we had decent cover from recent snow, and good thing because the scree can be loose in that area. Isn't like that everywhere though. I climbed Sargents Ridge a week later and was off snow 80% of the route. It wasn't bad at all and very solid, contrary to what I heard. Would have been a pain to walk down it from camp, but there was just enough cover on the side of the ridge to have an easy route down.
I think the scree is horrid in some areas, but in others it's not bad at all, easier than dealing with a foot of fresh powder even.
