Overview

White Baldy is one of the highest peaks in the Wasatch. Quite rugged and seldom-climbed, it's easiest routes are class 3 scrambles with some exposure. Outstanding views of Red Pine Lakes/White Pine Lake area, as well as Silver Lake area to the south. From the summit, the western peak looks nearly as high, but the topo maps list it as 11,240+. The western peak is an angular granite block.

White Baldy can be climbed as part of the Bullion Divide ridge route, an outstanding hike/scramble beginning at Alta and climbing over many peaks before White Baldy.

Getting There

Most commonly climbed from Red Pine or White Pine trails in Little Cottonwood Canyon, both of which start at White Pine Trailhead, about 5.5 miles up Little Cottonwood Canyon road. Can also be accessed from Silver Lake in American Fork Canyon by taking exit 287 east up American Fork Canyon (fee). At the split, go left towards Tibble Reservoir/Granite Flat. Park at Silver Lake Flat.

Red Tape

If using the American Fork approach, the fee is $3 for a 3-Day pass. No permits required on the Little Cottonwood side.

When To Climb

Experienced snow climbers can approach this peak as early as May, but for hikers and scramblers, best season is July-September.

Camping

Excellent camping can be found in Red Pine Canyon and White Pine Canyon, no fees. Some good camp spots can also be found near secluded Silver Glance Lake on the American Fork side.
