Overview

Zermula is mountainous loneliness which lies south from main ridge of Carnian Alps. The name of mountin originates from friuli word germoi which mean to bud. The configuration of Zermula seems like oblongness crest. His southern slopes are grassy and steep falling to Canale d Incarojo above Paularo town. Northern side decline to Cjadin dai Clapons. On this side of rock wall are going numerous direction and pretentious insured path Ferrata M.Zermula. On the west and east side of the crest are many easy hiking paths which are suitable also for childeren .

Monte Pizzul

By Vid Pogachnik: Monte Pizzul, 1935 m, is a grassy, stand-alone summit, east of Monte Zermula. It can easily be reached from Passo di Lanza, where the majority of hikers descend from Monte Zermula. Over the summit or around it, one can proceed by marked paths from Monte Zermula towards lower mountains north of Sernio-Grauzaria group. The summit with its grassy slopes forms a sharp contrast to rocky structures of Monte Zermula and Zuc della Guardia. Over its western slope and further down to Passo Cason di Lanza also a nice ski tour goes. Also the slopes of Monte Pizzul reveal many rests from the World War I. Many lines of trenches, today already covered with grass, caverns.

Zuc della Guardia

By Vid Pogachnik: Zuc della Guardia, 11911m, is a sharp tower, standing east of Monte Zermula and north of Monte Pizzul. It is rocky on all sides, towards south it is showing a good 100m high almost complete vertical rock structure. On this side, from the saddle between Monte Pizzul and Zuc della Guardia (reachable by a marked path) several rests from the World War I can be seen still today, for example, just above the saddle there's a big cavern. The summit can be reached by two ferratas. The southern one is really nice, going over almost vertical rocks, but well secured. The northern one is unknown to me. From Passo Cason di Lanza the summit can be reached in 1h.

Getting There

We turn with car through Pontebba directed to Val Pontebbana. The road is narrov, steep and winds uphill in a series of long hairpin bends. Somwhere incline exced 18 percent. Target is Passo del Cason di Lanza wich is possible starting point for slope on Monte Zermula or other Carnian mountain. From Pontebba to Passo approximate 30 minuts (if the road is open).
