Overview
Ranking in as number 49 on the Highpointers list is Ebright Azimuth is a 448 foot hill located in the Northern portion of Delaware. It is nothing extremely exciting except for the fact that it is the highest point in the state of Delaware. It comes in a close second to being the lowest highpoint in the United States of America, second only to Florida's own Britton Hill.
Getting ThereFrom Interstate 95 in Wilmington, Delaware you will take Exit 8 onto US Highway 202 North. Follow Highway 202 North for 4.1 miles to the junction with SR 92. Turn right onto SR 92 East and continue for 1.1 miles to Ebright Road. At the traffic light you will want to turn left onto Ebright Road. Follow Ebright Road for just over 1/2 mile to Ramblewood Drive which will be on your right hand side. There will be a Radio Tower on the left hand side of the road just before Ramblewood Drive. Find a parking spot as soon as you make the turn onto Ramblewood Drive. This is a residential area, so please be respectful of where you park your car.
At the intersection there will be a sign marking the highest point in Delaware. Actually the sign states that it is the vicinity of the highest point. The actual highpoint is said to be located in a nearby trailer park about 50 feet from the sign. This is private property, so PLEASE DO NOT TRESPASS.
There is however a USGS marker that is across the street from the sign that is between the curb and the sidewalk and takes some sleuth skills to find it. Just look for the part of the sidewalk that looks like it has been cut out.
Red TapeIf coming from I-95 from the south you will have to pay $11 in tolls until you finally get there.
There is no other red tape involved, but please respect the private property rights and call the sign or the marker good enough. Also this highpoint is considered one of the more dangerous highpoints in the U.S. because it is located on a fairly busy intersection, although I doubt it classifies up there with Denali or Mount Washington .
When To ClimbAny time of year will do. It is a zero elevation gain. Drive to it and look at it. That is all there is to it.
CampingI would think the locals would not look kindly to someone camping in their front yard.
