Approach

From Seward, take Jefferson Street west into Lowell Canyon until the road ends at a water diversion project. The trail begins on the right (north) side of the road.

Route Description

The lower portion of the race trail is sometimes indistinct and follows steep gullies and slopes several hundred feet to a bench where it becomes more prominent. This lower section is often muddy and requires pulling on roots, trees, and rocks for support, although try to avoid using the trunks of Devil's Club for handholds. The upper section follows the distinct trail along the ridge to the top. In early season, this requires crossing several snowfields.
