JonodoRoute Climbed: Packer lake trail Date Climbed: Sept 4, 2005  Sucess!

Hiked with my Wife and Son. It was Devin's first peak (20 mos). He got pretty heavy near the end of the hike. Really windy on the summit. Loads of people. It seemed like everyone was doing the hike from Packer Saddle. Gorgeous day. The views were outstanding. We could see Lassen.

SeanReedyRoute Climbed: Date Climbed: July 3, 2005  Sucess!

Left the family reunion behind in Graeagle at 4p.m. and was back and showered for baby back ribs and beer before 8p.m. A winding drive followed by and easy jog/hike to the top for a great panoramic view form the lookout tower on the top. I had fun skiing around on my trail shoes through the late season snow on the way down. I saw some nice dogs here and at the Lakes Basin trail and will bring mine next time for some fun in the snow and the beautiful lakes. Lots if great mountain biking around here too.

This was a nice hour and half hike to the summit. The views where amazing. Tried to get my dog to go up the stairs but she freaked out. The stairs are steep.

tahoeberneRoute Climbed: Sardine lakes Date Climbed: Sometime in the early 1980s  Sucess!

I was impressed how the fire lookout is precariously perched atop these jagged spires.

CompletebumRoute Climbed: Trail/summit rocks Date Climbed: July 18, 2004  Sucess!

Ran the trail from Packer Lake, avoided the stairs and took the rocks up to the look out. For some reason I thought the structure was going to fall off at any moment.

Matthew HollimanRoute Climbed: From Bassetts via Sardine Lakes Date Climbed: Feb 7, 2004  Sucess!

Matthew Holliman

Snow conditions varied my opinion from that of Bob. The approach from Bassetts is scenic, though--this is a pretty good-looking peak, especially for this part of the Sierra.

Bob BurdRoute Climbed: South Slopes Date Climbed: March 12, 2004  Sucess!

Bob Burd

From the south, Sierra Buttes makes for a fine winter climb, much easier than I expected. Your snow conditions may vary this opinion. Trip Report.

Sam MillsRoute Climbed: South Slope Date Climbed: July 1997  Sucess!

Sam Mills

A day hike up a fire trail on the South slope. A variation on the descent lead to some bushwacking, a slide down a rocky gully and an encounter with a homeowners Rottwieller(sp?). I emerged out of the brush on highway 49 near downtown Downieville and had a 2-3 mile hike back to my car. All was cool though.

Took the day hike with friends that were camping in lakes basin. Observation tower at the top needs to go.

bearbnzRoute Climbed: HIked the access road from the west Date Climbed: April 1991  Sucess!

HIked with Christine Beck and Steve Soich up the access road as the snow was still quite deep, and the road wasn't open. The snow near the top was in excess of 4 feet deep. We saw no tourists up there, and that lookout is perched in a precarious position. The best views in the vicinity.

With Darrin. Beautiful views on trail and exciting exposure climbing the summit pinnacle.
