Are you sure about that?

That doesn't seem possible. The mountains above the Butte are at least 3,000 feet higher, but aren't snowcaps. How could that be Signal Butte at almost 9,500 feet???

Re: Are you sure about that?

I'm positive that's Signal Butte. The surrounding, flatter land (where I live, incidentally) is about 9000 feet, so Signal Butte doesn't rise that high above it.

I don't get your point about snowcaps on the mountains behind it. The photo is from June.

Re: Are you sure about that?

Lines up pretty well if you are in the "Granite Hills" east- southeast of Divide. Quite convincing in google earth.

Re: Are you sure about that?

Yeah - If you know where to look, you can see where my house in this photo (in the larger version on my computer). I can actually follow the FS roads and other landmarks on that photo that lead to Signal Butte.

I'm positive that's it. I see it every day driving to and from my home.

Re: Are you sure about that?

I see, so the large mountains behind are the McCurdy mountains (11k +) and behind those are the Sawatch?

Re: Are you sure about that?

Those are the McCurdy Mountains. Behind them is either the front range or part of the Tenmile/Mosquito.
