"Were you successful?" Yessir. How could I (or anyone else) possibly fail on this non-event? Wish I had counted the stairs.

Got seriously misplaced in Belg-land. Ended up in HF wilderness area and it's about as cool of place you are going to find for about 100 miles...

Heavy rain, poor visibility. Nothing to see from the beautiful landscape.

A beautiful spring day and a walk around the Hoge Venen natural park together with a visit to the summit of the Signal de Botrange was the best way to finish a hiking weekend in the beautiful Ardennes.

I planned a circle route around some of the paths in the park starting (and ending) at the Nature Centre. After some 3 hours and about 11km I arrived at the summit. A small, engraved rock marks the summit. Next to it you find two towers, a large one next to the road which seems to be for communication purposes and a smaller one closer to the summit, designed to measure exactly 6 meters – placing whoever climbs it at exactly 700 metres above sea level!!.

The climb is not very demanding but the path and the nature around it still make for a good day of fun.

After the easy ascent of the Vaalserberg I was keen to get my boots on before the more stiff ascents of Germany and Eastern Europe. After tastey eats in Eupen I waited for the hourly bus to Botrange at the station. The road climbed higher and higher and then past a large tower - it then dawned on me that the road ran past the summit. Two miles down the road I was at the nature centre crowded by school nature parties. Less than twenty minutes I was back at the tower after walking along a forest track. Not an exciting summit but the forest was pleasant - before I knew it I was heading south to Troisvierges and Luxmebourg!
