The trailhead is the huge parking place of Stubai glacier skiing area in Mutterbergalm, at the end of Stubai valley. Take the Brenner-motorway exit 10 "Schönberg/Stubaital" and continue along the road B183.
The ski ascent to Ruderhofspitze over the mighty south flank is definitely one of the most esthetical ski tours in the whole Tyrolian region. Although you ought to consider that it isn’t exactly a stroll. The slope angle is significant and constant from bottom to top, with a key passage, which is mostly overcome with skis on the backpack. At this point crampons and ice axe can come in handy.
The elevation gain is about 1.750 meters; the ascent will take about 4 hours. The trip requires absolutely safe snow conditions (best period: March – May) and is for skilled ski-mountaineers only.
Follow the ski slope called „Wilde Grube“, and overcome a pretty steep step. After about 5 - 10 minutes leave the ski slope, turn right and continue on steep terrain up to a high plateau. After few minutes head another steep slope and a narrow passage, then turn more and more towards NW to the Ruderhof glacier. Few later you arrive at the mentioned key passage: when this difficulty is surmounted, the summit can be considered (almost) attained. Continue towards the peak, which can be easily reached following the right ridge. Enjoy the outstanding views of Zuckerhütl, Wilder Freiger, Feuersteine, Schrankogel etc.
