Circular route via Bakestall  Sucess!

Having just climbed a long scramble route Pen by Thor's Buttress to top of Scafell Pike, I had decided I wanted to make the most of having driven all the way to the Lakes when my companion had to return. I had never climbed Skiddaw and this was my opportunity, although the weather was fairly poor. I set off walking from car-park east of Applethwaite at 9pm with an hour of daylight left - and walked east past the start of the main drag up Skiddaw via Little Man and then north up the valley between Skiddaw and Blencathra, to camp about 1km S of the 'highest Youth Hostel in England'. Next day in low cloud, high winds and intermittent rain I passed the YHA, climbed up over Bakestall and on to Skiddaw to return to the car park down the main ascent route, past Little Man.

Standard route from the car park  Sucess!

A friend and I had some time to waste so we rambled up Skiddaw taking in Little Man along the way. A bit of an unrelenting slog up but nice and easy and quick.

Easy but delightful.  Sucess!

Plodded up the tourist track from Gale Road, detoured up Little Man and cut over into the S Face before climbing up to the top. Lived up to all my expectations- a great mountain. Spent 3 hours on the summit i liked it that much.

Route: Keswick tourist route  Sucess!

Fantastic day of sunshine and a great way to finish off some hiking in the Lakes. Left from Rosthwaite following the Cumbria Way up to Keswick and then continued up and over Latrigg. From the carpark to the summit 62 minutes. Came down over Skiddaw Little Man and back to the parking lot via the standard route.

And me!  Sucess!

Finally bagged my last English 3000er. Been putting it off for years as it never looked as interesting as other climbs/scrambles. Great in wet/winter weather....

A few times  Sucess!

Climbed this one a few times, the most recent from Millbeck via Carl Side, with every conceivable type of weather. On top it was around -15C blowing a gale with a mix of snow and hail. 90 minutes later we were paddling in the pools by Carsleddam dam/waterfall in about 10C compete contrast.

Standard Route  Sucess!

My wife and I took my parents up Skiddaw on their first trip to the Lakes. It was a nice easy hike but getting snowed on on the summit added a little bit of adventure.

Route Climbed: Longside Edge. Date Climbed: Feb 96  Sucess!

An absolutely freezing cold day. Bassenthwaite was frozen over (not a sight I've since seen). The route over Longside Edge was perfect until we entered the clouds and hit the gale. There were snow crystals blown into all manner of shapes. Totally outstanding.

Climbed by mountain bike. Must admit to having to 'push' up some of it. Anyone cleaned it?

Route Climbed: Ullock Pike ridge travese to summit Date Climbed: 13th July 2003  Sucess!

Sweltering heat made it very hard going up until the final push to the summit where a stong wind help cool us down. Views from the summit were fantastic, if a little hazy but it was a bit of a slog getting there!

Route Climbed: Ullock Pike, Long Side, Carl Side, Skiddaw, Skiddaw Little Man, Lonscale Fell, Latrigg Date Climbed: November 16 2002  Sucess!

My first 3,000 ft summit on a great day. Accompanied by my dad and my uncle and aunt. Weather was great - you could see as far as the Isle of Man. Very cold on top. I ran down the last bit down to the car park.

Route Climbed: Lonscale Fell, Jenkin Hill, Little Man Summit Date Climbed: 14.11.01  Sucess!

My Brother and I carried our Mountain bikes most of the way to the summit, observing walkers faces who were on the decent. Weather took a turn for the worse as we got nearer to the summit, but we made it, 4 Hrs from Keswick town centre. (carrying the bike)

25 Mins mad mad downhill and 1 puncture later we reached the bottom.

Great Experience, but would think twice about doing it on a bike again!
