It is! Huge local relief despite being less than 8,000 feet high. A bummer that the pocket glacier still hasn't slid yet.

Yeah, great shot Martin. Should be the signature photo on the page...but Ray is long gone from here (or he'll show up once every other year to harass us).

I thought your statement was odd that Slesse is less than 8,000 ft. I seem to remember it being over 8k. And sure enough, Bivouac.com shows it at 8,002 ft (2439m). Ray has 7,700-something ft in there for some reason.

The Beckey Guide has it at 2,439 meters or 8,002 feet and so does Bivouac. The McLane guide (what I used for our trip) has it at 2,375 meters or 7,790 feet and so does SP.

So you think the higher value is correct? It's definately higher than Rexford at 7,641 feet. We were looking up.

I generally hold Bivouac in high esteem. It's a thorough database. I'm not familiar with the McLane guide. And Ray's accuracy/value was obviously taken from the guide. Only the topo map would tell for sure but I don't have that map (Canada).

What's interesting to note for the prominencians among us is:
Slesse's prominence is held by American Border Peak but only if Slesse is lower than American Border, else Slesse holds American Border's prominence.
Scenarios:
1) ABP 8068 ft ("old" height), SM <8068 ft
--> ABP 8068F, 2988P, 5080S (Hannegan Pass with Shuksan as next-higher peak) then:
    1a) SM 8002 ft --> SM 8002F, 2802P, 5200S (Skagway Pass at Twin Lakes) or
    1b) SM 7790 ft --> SM 7790F, 2590P, 5200S (Skagway Pass)
2) ABP 7994 ft ("new" height) & SM 8002 ft
--> ABP 7994F, 2794P, 5200S (Skagway Pass) and SM 8002F, 2922P, 5080S (Hannegan Pass with Shuksan as next-higher peak)
3) ABP 7994 ft ("new" height) & SM 7790 ft
--> ABP 7994F, 2914P, 5080S (Hannegan Pass) and SM 7790, 2590P, 5200S (Skagway Pass)
4) ABP 7994 ft & SM 7969 ft (peakbagger.com value) --> ABP 7994F, 2914P, 5080S (Hannegan Pass) and SM 7969, 2769P, 5200S (Skagway Pass)
Howbert uses scenario 2. And apparently so does Bivouac however that site does have an oddity about the exact prominence for Slesse (might be caused by a rounding of the meters-feet conversion).

Yeah, whatever, right? :)
Man I've got way too much time on my hands this morning.
