| I climbed this with a buddy Emil Stojakovic, A late start and snow higher up slowed us down. Did the last couple of miles back to the woodlawn Campground in the dark. Lost the trail, campers taking trail blazes as souveniers, followed a drainage, ended up in someones backyard, then hiked on the road back to our car. Fun scrambling gives an alpine flavor to a Catskill hike. | |

| Lovely hike through green forests to the highest point in the Catskills. Very buggy and crowded on the summit. Very steep descent down the east side. | |

| Climbed with friends and their children, ages 7 - 11 and it was a ton of fun! Alot of blow down on the trails but the conditions were otherwise excellent. | |

| Date Signed: Aug 04, 2002 5:17 PM CW (my hiking partner / navigator / map reader) and I started in the Woodland Valley Camp ground parking area (trailhead is found across the road, between two campsites (#46 & 47) and over the bridge - Red blazes) A small fee is charged to use the parking lot. From there we followed the trail up Wittenberg (2,580 ft.) with great vistas overlooking Ashokan Reservoir. Then over Cornell (3,860 ft) Nice long hike (10:15 AM - 6:35 PM) with steep ascents and the challenge of several ledges. Instead of following the WCS Trail, we did a loop bringing us back to the parking area. (red to yellow) (more trail details to follow) | |
