Snow Cave - Illumination Rock

Fierce winds destroyed our tent the previous night. Our desire for the summit left us with no choice. We had to dig a snow cave at illumination saddle. December 4, 2011.

I was too worried about getting things situated during this time for photography. And of course doing the usual chasing gear in the wind and helping with the digging of the snow cave. It certainly was a beautiful moment up there.

	Hasn't voted	I'm embarrassed to admit that I wasn't familiar with Galen Rowell. But I looked into it and I can see that he loves to capture the morning and evening lighting. My father was a professional photographer and he always called it "the magic hour". Thanks!

	Hasn't voted	The wind chill at night was less than pleasant. But inside the cave it was fairly warm by comparison. When we blocked the doorway it heated up to about 40 degrees.

	Hasn't voted	Thanks Eric! Ever since I first saw photos of illumination saddle several years ago, I've been hoping to get the chance to camp there. It's unfortunate about the tent of course, but with $100 and the help of two different repair shops, I think it's going to be usable again.
